TKS Script

tks-Dec’03 Soundscript
512 MB (unzipped) - This script contains over 5300 sounds and 326 various events from which sounds will be played. All commentary was taken from actual PGA and Champions (Senior) Tour televised events. Originally put together using the Links 2001 Sound Editor, this script was then transferred to Links 2003 where corrections were added to assure that sounds played properly in both versions.

There are some differences in sounds depending on which Links version you are playing:

  • There are background sounds that play in L2001 which cannot play in L2003. These sounds relate to airplanes flying overhead…car horns…church bells and a few other background sounds. Links 2003 does not have a category to properly play these sounds.
  • In Links 2003 there is a slight delay when sounds play "In flight". These sounds trigger when the ball begins its downward flight. In L2001, the wav files play sooner. However, the important issue is….they do play!
  • Ball striking sounds are different in the two versions. In Links 2001, ball striking sounds are those supplied in the soundscript. In Links 2003, ball striking sounds are those built into the 2003 program.
  • It has been said that in L2003, wav sounds per event do not play at random. In other words, a ball hit into the fairway may only have 10 different sounds which can be heard over a period of time even though there may be 50 sounds which are programmed to play for this event. If true, it will mean certain sounds will be more repetitive than in L2001. However, since there are hundreds of events to trigger sounds, this may not be a serious hindrance.

  • The previous “tks” soundscript (L2k1-2k3script) contained 225 variables that would trigger wav files….This script has 326, an increase of 45%.

  • You will also notice an increase in the actual number of wav files available to be played…..Unfortunately that also means the script is quite a bit larger. Once unzipped, this script is a 500MB program, compared to 360MB for L2k1-2k3.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Regardless of which game is used, there are times when you will not hear any sound commentary. This is not a flaw in the soundscript. This situation occurs when the land designations established by APCD and Microsoft designers do not match the land designations available in the Soundscript Editor. (EXAMPLE: A player may be hitting from the rough….The script is programmed to have commentary when the hitting terrain is "Rough" but the course design may be designated as "tall grass". Therefore, no sound will be heard.) This does not occur often but you should be aware of it.

You will also note that there are stereo effects built into this script to add more of a tournament feel. You may hear "FORE" when hitting into the rough or "background applause" coming from either the right or left speakers to give the impression of crowds out on the course. (If you find this too annoying, you can go into the Sound Editor and "remove" the sound or "reduce" the playing percent….Plus, this is a good way to learn how the Editor works.)

Enjoy!
